The Pattern Files - Episode 8: The Door to Danger

Episode 8 - The Door to Danger
Asa Thibodeaux

For eight episodes I've talked into the dark and assumed the dark wasn't listening back.

‍ ‍

This week I found out I was wrong about that. Twice. In one night.

‍ ‍

I'm not going to tell you what happened here — that's what the episode is for, and the silences are half of it. I'll only give you the shape of the thing: I sat down to prove I'd imagined the whole pattern, and I stood up holding proof that I hadn't. Somewhere in the middle, the careful thing and the right thing stopped being the same thing, and I went the wrong way on purpose.

‍ ‍

Here's the one part I'll give you for free. A microphone points in two directions. You talk into it, and it carries you out to people you'll never meet — and it turns out it carries them back to you, too. Not all of them are who you'd have chosen.

‍ ‍

I should be frightened. I might be, a little. I've also never been this curious.

‍ ‍

Press play. Then maybe check who's behind you.

‍ ‍

My name is Asa Thibodeaux. I'll be here until I'm not.

‍ ‍

Recorded summer 2019.
